Woman humped lover after killing husband
A cheating accountant had sex with her lover within hours of stabbing her husband to death in a `brutal and frenzied attack`, a court heard today. Carol Croydon, 37, allegedly murdered her husband Philip with a cheese knife before tying him up and leaving him naked on the bedroom floor of a hotel. She later concocted a story to police about how her husband had invited her to a swingers party in the room and she had left him with another couple, a jury at Nottingham Crown Court was told. Mr Croydon, 49, had arranged to meet his wife at the Hilton Hotel at East Midlands airport on April 25 last year in an attempt to boost their `flagging` marriage, the court heard. The couple were both having affairs at the time of the meeting but neither knew of the other`s indiscretions, said Timothy Spencer QC, prosecuting. Earlier in the day Croydon had booked a room for her lover Nelson Bland at the nearby Travel Inn. She was said to have had `murder in mind` when she left home that morning, taking with her several men`s ties and a scarf. A four-inch cheese knife used in boardroom meetings at her workplace, Blue 8, near Sandiacre, had also disappeared, the court heard. Less than an hour after Mr Croydon arrived at the hotel, she had stabbed him to death and trussed him up with the ties and scarf to disguise the killing as a kinky bondage session, Mr Spencer said. She then slipped out of the hotel and made a series of frantic phone calls to her brother-in-law, police and hospitals to report her husband missing, he said. She also made numerous calls to her lover who drove to her home in Paddock Close, Edwinstowe, Notts, around midnight. Mr Spencer told the court: `Nelson Bland drove to Edwinstowe, went into the house and the two of them had intercourse together on the sofa in the living room. `The stark reality is that within eight hours of stabbing her husband to death this defendant was having sexual intercourse with her lover in the living room of the home that she and her husband Philip bought and shared together.` Mr Croydon`s body was discovered at around 9am the following day by a hotel maid with 22 separate stab wounds. Croydon was arrested by police and after realising that she would have been caught on CCTV cameras at the hotel, she concocted a false story, Mr Spencer said. `She denied murdering her husband. She gave an account of her husband phoning her from the Hilton Hotel on the Friday and telling her that he was going to take part in a swingers party. `He asked her to join him and she said she had done so about 5.30pm that Friday.` She told police she had gone to room 328 and another couple called Brian and Linda were there for group sex. She said she had sex with Brian while Linda performed a sex act on her husband, the court heard. She then said she lost her nerve and left the room after changing her clothes. She also added that Mr Croydon had suffered a nosebleed when she first arrived and she had helped him clear up the blood. Mr Spencer claimed this was another cover story.
