Warrant issued for arrest of sex video-maker

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Hamilton man who recruited teenage girls to star in sexually explicit videos after he failed to turn up for sentencing in court on Thursday. Michael Hakawai, 43, was found guilty of 12 charges of making objectionable material when he appeared for a defended hearing in Hamilton District Court last month. Two young women, who appeared in videos filmed by Hakawai gave evidence at his hearing, saying he was in charge of the video making process, telling them what to wear and how to expose their bodies. The videos showed the girls in various stages of undress, some wearing school uniforms, and where filmed at locations around Hamilton. The court was told the girls were given alcohol and drugs before appearing in the videos and Hakawai offered to pay them.
